Start of the SA POUR LA FABRICATION DU MAGNESIUM plant (SFM) in Martigny (VS). Electrolytic production of primary magnesium from ores of its own mines. |
1970: |
SFM specializes in the transformation of the magnesium and its alloys. |
1974: |
The MINMET Group purchases SFM. |
1983: |
Development of the «continuous casting» process for the production of anodes/bars. |
1989: |
Transfer in a new, modern plant, still in Martigny. |
Since the nineties: |

Partnership with the «Ecole d'Ingénieurs du Valais (HEVs) » for new processes' development. |

Leadership position in Europe in the field of Mg powders and raspings. |

1996: |
SFM obtains the ISO 9002 certificate. |
2003: |
New ISO 9001 : 2000 certification. |
| 2009: | Transfer of the sales department from the parent company MINMET to the factory and direct commercialisation from SFM. New ISO certification 9001:2008 Change of the corporate name from S.A. pour la Fabrication du Magnésium to SFM SA (Société pour la Fabrication du Magnésium) |

- 9 millions Swiss francs of annual turnover
- 1500 tonnes per year of production capacity
